India Loves Plastic

Followers of SFP are familiar with our coverage of the booming cosmetic surgery market in Britain and China. SFP readers may be suprised to learn of another area of Asia with a burgeoning nip 'n tuck market: India.

According to a new study released by Companies and Markets, India's cosmetic surgery market has grown about 34% in the past two years and continues to expand. Unlike America and Britian's cosmetic medicine market, India's market if lead by invasive procedures and not by the minimally invasive and non-invasive procedures like Botox injects and laser treatments. India's cosmetic surgery market is worth an estimated $110 million dollars US.

This boom is believed to be the result of aggressive marketing, mostly print media marketing, and the growing disposable incomes of Indians living in large, urban cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and others.
